Fiji Airways is the only airline flying nonstop between Vancouver (YVR) and Nadi (NAN), with three flights a week year-round and the Airbus A350 now on the route. The flight takes roughly 11 hours southbound and a little longer coming home, leaves Vancouver late at night and lands in Nadi early in the morning. Travellers elsewhere in Western Canada connect in Vancouver, and since the Fiji Airways and WestJet codeshare that can be done on a single ticket.
The nonstop: days, times and aircraft
Fiji Airways opened the Vancouver route in November 2022 with two flights a week. In its May 2026 codeshare announcement the airline said it would run three weekly services year-round on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with the A350 on all Vancouver flights from September. Fiji Airways also says it adds extra flights in peak periods, so check for additional dates around Christmas and spring break.
Published schedules shift slightly by season. As an example, the pattern filed for late 2026 and reported by AeroRoutes looks like this:
| Flight | Departs | Arrives | Approx. time in the air |
|---|---|---|---|
| FJ881 Vancouver to Nadi | YVR about 10:25 pm | NAN about 5:15 am, two calendar days later | About 11 hours |
| FJ880 Nadi to Vancouver | NAN about 10:00 pm | YVR about 1:55 pm, same calendar day | About 12 hours |
Treat these times as a pattern, not a promise. Confirm the exact days and times for your dates when you book, and again a few weeks before departure, because airlines adjust schedules between seasons.
The date line and that early arrival
Crossing the International Date Line is what makes the calendar look strange. Leave Vancouver on a Tuesday night and you land in Nadi on Thursday morning; Wednesday largely disappears. Coming home you gain it back, landing in Vancouver on the afternoon of the same day you left Fiji.
The early-morning arrival shapes the first day of every trip, so plan it deliberately:
- Book the first night from the night before. Most hotels have a mid-afternoon check-in. If you want a room the moment you land, reserve the previous night so it is yours on arrival.
- Or go straight to the islands. Boats to the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands leave Port Denarau from the morning, and helicopters and seaplanes fly from near the airport in daylight. That works well if you sleep on the plane.
- Keep day one light. Avoid booking a full-day tour for the morning you land. A swim, a long lunch and an early night set you up better.
On the way home, the late-evening departure means you have a full last day. Ask for late check-out or book a day room, and keep a change of clothes handy. Our Nadi and Suva airport tips cover what to expect at the terminal.
Choosing seats on the A350

The Fiji Airways A350-900 seats 33 in Business and 301 in Economy, according to the AeroLOPA seat map, and it has satellite Wi-Fi, which the A330-200 previously used on some flights does not. Our Fiji Airways A350 guide describes the cabins in detail; for this route, these are the choices that matter most:
- Business: every seat is a lie-flat bed with aisle access. On an overnight southbound flight, that is what you pay for. Couples usually prefer the centre pairs; solo travellers the window seats.
- Bula Space: the first rows of Economy have extra legroom for a fee. On an 11-hour flight it is the best-value upgrade for taller travellers.
- Economy: seats are three across on each side of two aisles. Couples can take the window and aisle seats of a three and hope the middle stays free on quieter dates, or simply pick an aisle and window pair.
- Families: ask for a bassinet position early if you travel with an infant, since there are only a few per cabin.
Avoid the rows directly beside the galleys and washrooms if you want to sleep. Seat selection fees and inclusions vary by fare, so check what your ticket includes before paying extra.
Connecting from elsewhere in Western Canada
For travellers outside the Lower Mainland, the Vancouver connection is the part of the journey to plan most carefully. The nonstop leaves late at night, which actually helps: most domestic flights from Victoria, Kelowna, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon and Winnipeg land in Vancouver with time to spare.
The 2026 Fiji Airways and WestJet codeshare matters here. Fiji Airways places its code on WestJet domestic flights including Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto and Halifax, and WestJet places its code on the Vancouver to Nadi flights. On a single booking you check in once, your bags go through to Nadi, and the airlines handle a missed connection.
| Option | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Single ticket via the codeshare | Most travellers from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba | Fares and routings vary; compare with separate tickets |
| Separate domestic ticket to YVR | Points bookings or very cheap domestic fares | You re-check bags and carry the risk of a missed flight; allow several hours |
| Overnight in Vancouver | Winter travel, long drives or ferries from Vancouver Island | One extra hotel night, but the least stressful start |
From Vancouver Island, the ferry is fine for the trip home, but on the way out we prefer a short flight or a night near YVR, because a cancelled sailing can cost you the whole trip.
When the nonstop doesn't fit
With three flights a week, the nonstop may not match your dates. Fiji Airways also flies to Nadi from Los Angeles and San Francisco, so a short flight south and a connection there is the usual back-up. Canadians don't need a visa to connect through the United States, but you clear US customs and immigration, so allow a generous connection and use a single ticket where you can.
Some travellers combine Fiji with New Zealand or Australia, flying one way via Vancouver and the other via a different gateway. That is easy to arrange on one booking and avoids backtracking. Baggage, timing and comfort
- Baggage: allowances depend on fare type and cabin. If you book through the WestJet codeshare, check which airline's baggage rules apply to your ticket.
- Best months: Fiji's drier season runs roughly May to October, which overlaps with summer holidays in Canada. Our winter months fall in the Pacific rainy and cyclone season, November to April, so add flexible plans and travel insurance.
- Book early for peaks: flights in late December, during BC and Alberta spring breaks and in July and August fill early on a three-a-week route.
- On board: drink plenty of water, choose the lighter meal option before sleeping, and set your watch to Fiji time when you board.
Planning notes
Pick your Fiji dates around the Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday pattern first, then build the hotel and island plan around an early-morning arrival and a late-night departure. If you live outside Vancouver, price a single ticket through the codeshare before booking separate flights. We can hold flights and the first night's room together when you plan with us.
Frequently asked questions
How long is the flight from Vancouver to Fiji?
About 11 hours southbound and around 12 hours on the way back, depending on winds and the season's schedule.
Does Air Canada fly nonstop to Fiji?
No. Fiji Airways is the only airline with nonstop flights between Canada and Fiji. Air Canada and WestJet passengers connect to it in Vancouver or travel via a US gateway.
Do I lose a day flying to Fiji?
Yes. Because you cross the International Date Line, you land two calendar days after a late-night Vancouver departure. You get that day back on the flight home.
